Cruelty is when you set out to harm something and it’s malicious, I may work with rats but I take care of them as well as I possibly can, and I have a legal responsibility to minimise any discomfort or stress that could happen. I would never deliberately hurt my rats.

If a lab animal needs surgery it is given aneasthetic and pain relief just like you would get if you were in hospital.

When I take the blood pressure of my rats, the same way a doctor does for patients, I let them sit on my knee wrapped in a blanket and they get treats after, when they get used to it some of them decide its a good idea to clean my hand while I’m busy!
