      Collecting urine isn’t always pleasant but it’s not gruesome, and kidneys are a little squishy but you just need to be careful.

      When I have kidneys that have really bad kidney disease the state of the kidneys can be a bit shocking (they don’t even look much like a kidney!).

      I’m not really a queasy person, but some people find injections, piercings or child birth gruesome so they might find cutting up kidneys gruesome!

      I find nasty injuries gruesome, because stuff is just wrong!

      It’s odd… if I’m dealing with raw meat for cooking or watching a lot of gore in a movie I find it really gross and gruesome. But if it’s real life I don’t have a problem with it… I find it kind of interesting and focus on the task at hand.

      I used to do volunteer ambulance service so I got used to seeing some gross injuries… so I learnt to switch off my “ewwww… this is gross switch” and focus on helping and treating the patient… that allowed my “oh wow I can see the bones and tendons… this is cool” part of me to take over…

      I apply the same in my work… my curiosity, excitement and determination always beat the voice in my head saying this is “gross”
