      There are several class of hormones and you see that they share similar elements – but they are built very differently which gives them their function.

      Lipid hormones (eg the steroid hormones) are generated from the metabolism of cholesterol therefore the main elements are carbon, oxygen and hydrogen.

      Monoamines and peptide hormones are built from amino acids and the basic elements in these are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen though other elements are also found in the side chains of amino acids e.g. sulpher
