I nearly changed my path during my final year of my degree, but I’m really glad I didn’t. There a lot of things to consider when doing what I do now but it’s worth all the effort. I have been ill during my PhD, and even then it was what really kept me going.

The options I was considering back then are still open to me now, but, had I changed courses back then it’d of been extremely difficult to get where I am now!

A career in research is not for everyone, but it is a very rewarding job and I think I made the right choice!

I don’t know if it was hard per se… more challenging… there were a few hurdles and uphill struggles along the way but I think it was definitely worth it. Stuff goes wrong in science all the time… and experiments often can just inexplicably fail… leaving you banging your head against the desk, getting frustrated or upset… so there were moments where I thought to myself “oh wouldn’t it be so much easier if I had a normal 9-to-5 job”… but I would never seriously consider it! I love this life too much!
