The most widely adopted hormone to enhance performance is testosterone, however, this is on the banned list of substances agreed by all the sports governing bodies. Increasing testosterone will increase muscle mass and male sexual characteristics (for women this would result in facial hair growth and a deeper voice). A side effect of taking testosterone in males can be behavioural overly aggressive or physical such as testicular shrinkage!
As mentioned below, testosterone can be used as it increased muscle mass and strength.
Erythropoietin could possibly be used as it increases the number of red blood cells: which would increase the amount of oxygen the blood can carry. But having too many red blood cells might make your blood too think and make your heart need to work too hard, like it’s pumping jelly!
Inhibition of myostatin is a focus of research at the moment to counteract muscle wasting… as myostatin inhibits the growth of muscles… for example in the Belgian blue cow the gene is mutated and they get naturally more muscular!
So that is a hormone that I’d say could be inhibited to effect sporting ability
